Privacy policy

Earshot is provided by Millennial Apps, LLC. It connects your iPhone or iPad to coding agents on a Mac you pair. Contact [email protected] with privacy questions or requests.

Voice and AI processing

Voice is off when you open Earshot normally. Tap Start voice or launch the Start Earshot shortcut from your iPhone Action Button to begin. After you grant permission, Earshot records audio from your device microphone only while voice is on. Voice audio, transcripts, conversation context, and relevant task updates pass through the Earshot relay to your selected voice provider, OpenAI or xAI, to provide transcription and voice replies. The relay processes this content in memory to route voice and measure usage; it does not save audio or transcripts. Live text displayed while you speak uses on-device Apple speech recognition only; if unavailable, the app waits for OpenAI transcription. An active voice session can continue while the app is in the background until you stop it or the idle limit is reached.

Typed and spoken task requests go to your paired Mac. The coding agent you select may send your prompts, relevant project files, tool output, and results to its own AI providers. These may include OpenAI, Anthropic, Cognition for Devin, and Cursor and its model providers. Their processing and retention follow your provider account settings and policies. Review them before sending sensitive material.

Earshot requests explicit permission before enabling these AI features. In Setup, choose Withdraw AI data permission to stop voice and disconnect the app. This does not cancel tasks already running on your Mac or erase data already processed by a provider.

Third-party data protection

Third parties that Earshot sends personal data to must provide the same or equal protection of that data as described in this privacy policy and required by the App Store Review Guidelines, including appropriate security safeguards and respect for applicable privacy rights. These are the voice providers OpenAI and xAI, which receive voice audio, transcripts, and conversation context to produce voice replies; Apple, which processes in-app purchases and delivers push notifications; Stripe, which processes hosted credit payments; the AI provider used by any hosted workspace we operate, described below; and the hosting and network providers that run the Earshot relay and those workspaces. Voice providers process this data under their API service terms and data-protection commitments.

When you connect your own computer, coding agents work differently. They run there under the provider accounts you sign in to, such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Cognition for Devin, or Cursor. Earshot starts these tools, but they send your prompts, files, and results to their providers under your account's terms and privacy settings, which Earshot does not control. Depending on the provider and account, those settings can affect retention and whether content is used to improve or train models. Earshot's permission to send data for AI processing does not change your provider account settings. Review them before sending sensitive material.

When Earshot provides a hosted sample workspace, coding requests are processed using the provider account configured for that workspace. Our App Review workspace uses Anthropic's Claude to process prompts, relevant sample files, tool output, and results. The third-party data-protection requirement above also applies to providers used by workspaces we operate.

The relay's policy of not saving audio or transcripts does not mean an AI provider never retains that content; providers may retain data for service delivery, safety, abuse prevention, or legal obligations as described in their terms.

Coding agent access on your Mac

Live coding agents run with their CLI approval prompts disabled. They can run commands, change or delete files, and use credentials available to your Mac account without asking for each action.

Choosing a project or Git worktree does not restrict access to that folder. Agents may access other files and credentials available to your Mac account, subject to macOS permissions. Files and tool output they use may be sent to their coding providers. This applies to Earshot-launched sessions; other CLI sessions keep their own settings. Read the agent access guidance.

What Earshot stores

• A random pairing identifier and an authentication verifier connect your devices. The pairing secret is stored in the iOS Keychain and in your Mac coordinator configuration.
• Task messages between your phone and Mac use end-to-end encryption. The relay cannot decrypt those messages. Undelivered encrypted messages expire after five minutes.
• Pending notification content is stored for delivery retries for up to 24 hours, then removed; delivery status is kept for up to seven days. The relay stores your APNs device token and environment to send task notifications. Notification titles, task status, and short summaries pass through the relay and Apple without the task-message encryption. They may be visible on your lock screen according to your notification settings.
• The relay stores voice usage records, including session identifiers, model, token counts, timestamps, costs, credit balance, and purchase records. These are associated with your pairing identifier.
• If you provide an OpenAI or xAI API key in Mac setup, it is stored encrypted on the relay and used only for that provider’s voice sessions. You can remove that key in Mac setup. It is not sent to your phone.
• The Mac coordinator stores task history, prompts, results, and configuration locally. Your project files, Git branches, worktrees, and pull requests remain in the places your coding tools create them.

Payments and service providers

Apple processes in-app credit purchases. Stripe processes hosted credit payments on Mac and may collect payment and billing details under its own privacy policy. Earshot stores purchase references and amounts, but does not receive or store your full payment card number. Hosting and network providers process connection information, such as IP addresses, to deliver and protect the service. Support requests include the information you choose to email us.

Data may be processed outside your country, including in the United States. Provider retention and legal obligations may differ by service.

Tracking

Earshot does not sell your personal data, use advertising identifiers, or track you across other companies' apps and websites for advertising. Usage records are used to operate and bill for voice features.

Retention and deletion

Encrypted relay messages expire after five minutes. Pairing, device, usage, and credit records remain until the pairing is deleted or you request deletion. Use Delete pairing and relay data in Setup to remove the pairing and its relay records, including its stored OpenAI and xAI keys and device token. This disconnects both devices from that pairing and removes its credit balance. Minimal Apple transaction references and refund status remain without the pairing link to prevent duplicate redemption and reconcile payments. Contact support about unused credits before deleting.

Forget this Mac removes the pairing from this device only. Deleting a pairing does not remove files, worktrees, pull requests, or history on your Mac, or records held independently by AI providers or Stripe. Contact the relevant provider to exercise your rights over those records. Limited financial or support records may be retained where needed to meet legal obligations or resolve disputes.

Your choices

You can stop voice, withdraw AI data permission, disable microphone or notification access in iOS Settings, remove your own API key in Mac setup, or delete your pairing. Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete personal data, or object to processing. Email us to make a request. We may need to verify your control of the pairing without asking for your secret key.

Children

Earshot is a developer tool and is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us so we can investigate.

Changes

We will update this page when our practices change and update the effective date. Material changes to AI data sharing will require renewed permission in the app.
